About the Wanganui Events Trust

The Wanganui Events Trust is registered with the Charities Commission, reg. no. CC25035.

Experience, local knowledge and professional business sense is drawn from the members of the Wanganui Events Trust Board who are all Wanganui people volunteering their time. Their role is focused on governance and strategy for our events, although they do also love to get involved and support our activities at an operational level.

Current Trustees are:

  • Leigh Grant (Chair) – Manager of Transfield Services, Wanganui
  • Trevor Strong (Vice Chair) – Managing Director of SEL Group
  • Michael Green – Rotary Club of Wanganui
  • Sue Gurr – Retired
  • John Lower – Owner of Lower Engineering
  • Les Lunny – Past President of Touch NZ
  • Peter Redpath – Partner of Sewell & Wilson, Chartered Accountants
  • Rose Stokes – Director of Inferno Design & Advertising
  • Geoff Hintz - Consultant, Trafalgar Resources Ltd
  • Colin Milham - Partner, Horsley Christie Lawyers & Notary Public

All management and operational activities are undertaken by the WET operations team, which currently has four full time employees:

Mike Cronin The 2013 Masters Games in Wanganui will be Mike's fourth at the helm as Games Manager. Mike's events industry experience, coupled with his 20+ years in project management, all contribute to his unique vision and management style. Mike is the man to get the job done. When he isn't working, you can find him on the football field (a valued member of the Athletic Cosmos team), the tennis court (he has one mean backhand!), or relaxing at home.
Vallie Finlay Vallie has come to us from The Radio Network where she was involved in sales and advertising. She also brings with her a wealth of experience within the hospitality industry both in Wanganui and around the country. This experience makes Vallie ideally suited to her role as Events & Facilities Manager at the fabulous Cooks Gardens. Vallie is an avid rugby fan and can be seen most Saturdays during the season cheering on the local team.
Brian Grinstead "Grinny" to his friends, Brian fulfils the role of Finance Officer at WET. With many years as an accountant with some of Wanganui's premier accounting firms, Brian has acquired a superb range and depth of knowledge of accountancy products and practices making him perfectly suited to the performance of this role. An excellent athlete in his younger days (football), Brian engages in competitive walking these days and can, from time to time, be seen out & about 'pounding the pavements'.
Stuart Milham The Property & Maintenance Officer, Stu is based at our Cooks Gardens facility. Stu has been with us for a good few years now and is our 'go to' guy when it comes to putting on the big events at Cooks and keeping everything 'ticking over' maintenance-wise. An accomplished cyclist (both road and track), Stu still finds the time in his busy schedule to coach a number of adult and junior road & track cyclists.
